Mason ended up being home December 9-13 sick. Nothing to really pin point except he just didn't feel good. Valynn came down with it on the 13th. Hers thankfully was shorter lived. Mason didn't get to compete in the 3 v. 3 soccer tournament due to being home sick all week. Saturday the 14th we had dress rehearsal for the Sunday School Christmas program. At 1:30 Sunday morning I get a Facebook message, one of the kids went down with the flu, so at 1:30 in the morning we are devising a plan B to put on the program. Mason took over as Pastor Mohr, Kyra and Valynn split Mason's narrator parts and the show went on. They did wonderful. The play was Silent Mice, Holy Mice, based on the writing of Silent Night. I must say Kyleigh and the other preschooler stole the show with their one liners.
We survived the concert onslaught. The kids did great and we had fun listening to them. On the 20th we rang bells for the Salvation Army as a family. On the 21st the kids did great at their piano recital.
December 22nd we got hit by an ice/snow storms that cancelled churches and stranded us at home for a couple of days. We had plenty to do, we made lefse and flatbrod. We also got ready for our Christmas meals. Meanwhile Mark started putting up walls downstairs for the bathroom. The 24th the kids and I went to Christmas Eve service at the Lutheran church, we came home and ate supper, we then opened gifts and watched Despicable Me 2, Mark's Christmas gift from Kyra. It was a great evening. On Christmas Day the kids got their presents from Santa and that afternoon we had a great meal.
This is where our vacation took a nose dive. Mason and Kyleigh came down with a stomach bug. Our night was a nightmare, let me explain. Kyleigh started throwing up around 10:00 that night. She was up every 10 -30 minutes, throwing up, going to the bathroom, or crying because her stomach hurt. In between this time we are trying to catch a few moments of sleep. Baths helped Kyleigh feel better and at one time she fell asleep while taking a bath. Addy decided the bed wasn't crowded enough with Mark, Kyleigh, and I so she had to be removed from the bed multiple times. At 2:30 Kyleigh had finally slept for 30 minutes straight and was comfortable enough to take up 1/2 the bed, so I moved to the couch, where I was promptly greeted by Snaps who thought I looked comfy. Around 4:30 Mason found me because his stomach started bothering him again, after a bath he slept on the other couch with Lucky. At 7:30 Kyleigh woke up still not feeling better. She threw up a couple of times throughout the day and slept most of the day, but was able to take in some fluids. This is also the day that Grandma and Grandpa Larson came to visit. On the 27th Kyleigh still wasn't feeling better and was still very clingy so I took Kyleigh and Mason to the doctor. She was borderline dehydrated so it was determined that if she got sick one more time she would need to be hospitalized. She kept a 1/2 oz. of fluid down from noon until 10:00 that night when she got sick. Deciding she at least took in fluid she would be fine until the next morning when she still wasn't feeling better and went all day without peeing. A call to the doctor determined that if she hasn't peed by 4:00 we would need to take her in even though we were still able to get fluids into her. At 3:45 she finally peed. Meanwhile Mason is still not feeling the greatest but he is eating and drinking but finally felt better on the 29th. On the 30th Valynn decided to join in on the fun, her bout only lasted 3 days. Kyleigh finally felt better on January 2nd. Mark went back to work on the 2nd.
On the 3rd we decided we needed to get out of the house. We went out for supper and went to the movie Frozen. What a great movie and really good music. Another storm and cold snap came in on the 4th, which cancelled church again on the 5th. The 6th it was -40 with windchill and we had gotten 8 inches of snow that was now blowing around. Mark went into work but had to take a detour. The kids were supposed to go back on the 7th but the school pushed the start date back to the 8th. On the 6th Kyra who had missed out on the previous round of fun decided it was her turn, but instead of a stomach bug, she came down with a high fever. She missed the first two days of school and finally returned on Friday the 10th. I bet you are now thinking we are home free! Think again, just this week Kyleigh decided she wanted more snuggle time with mom and came down with a fever on the 13th. She is feeling better today and hopefully we are done for awhile. Through all this Mark had a small bout with the stomach bug and I came down with a slight cold but for the most part the parents have remained healthy.
In between all this I hosted a Tupperware party and attended a meeting for the school referendum that is being placed on the ballot in March. Jazz band has started up for Valynn. She is also doing the Scholastic Bowl and wants to do a solo and/or ensemble at the upcoming music competition. Mason and Kyra will be starting basketball next week. Mason is still doing travel soccer but we are up in the air as to which team he is playing for as his lone remaining coach (the other left the team before Christmas) stated he was leaving the team and then a day later said he is remaining with the team so we have asked if Mason can move down to his age level. Kyra started Girl Scouts this week with me as one of her leaders. It went well and she will be selling Girl Scout cookies in February. Mark and Mason also had a Cub Scout meeting this week.
This pretty much sums up our last month. Too many irons in the fire. It will only snowball from here until May when school is out. The kids brought home their second 9 week report cards. All three did very well, as usual.

Oh and did I mention that our deep freeze quit working? On December 23rd Mark and I went deep freeze shopping. On January 7th we had to get a new one to replace the one that we had just bought because that one quit working. We had bought a repaired one that obviously wasn't repaired.
